Final Stats

The UTPA baseball program suffered a 6-2 loss to North Dakota this Friday (April 16) afternoon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Texas-Pan American's second conference series of the year was off to a slow start as the scored remained tied up until the sixth inning. A four-run seventh put the Broncs behind 5-1 and dropped Texas-Pan American to 11-18 for the season and 0-5 in Great West Conference play. The loss for UTPA improves North Dakota to 5-19 overall and 1-4 in GWC action.

North Dakota went up first on the board on a bases clearing double down the leftfield line. The Broncs were then able to score on a bases loaded hit by pitch in the fourth. Garrett Bivone crossed the plate on Mike McCarthy's HBP.

A costly error in the seventh was the beginning of misfortunes for the Broncs. A throwing error by LHP Troy Green allowed Jeff Bunch to reach second safely. North Dakota then scored two runs on a single, another on a single, and the last run of the inning was scored by Craig Domage as he stole home.

UTPA struggled on the mound as Texas-Pan American went through three arms in the seventh, but it was Green (1-5) who was tagged with the loss. The southpaw faced three batters in the seventh and gave up three runs on two hits.

Starting pitcher Cody Plunk received a no decision in six innings of work on the hill. Plunk fanned five and walked two.

In the final inning of play, the Broncs scored a lone run on a Ryan Vest groundout to short scoring Stuart MacInnes from third. MacInnes finished 3-for-4, a run, double, and a stolen base.

North Dakota's Jeff Bunch went 3-for-5 with two runs. UND's starting pitcher Zac Salfer picked up his second win of the season (2-3) in 7 1/3 innings pitched.

The Broncs continue on with the four-game set this weekend with a doubleheader tomorrow (April 17) beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
