Baseball Falls 6-3 to North Dakota in Series Finale

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program (12-20, 1-7) suffered a 6-3 loss to North Dakota in the series finale this Sunday (April 18) afternoon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Broncs trailed early on with a 2-1 deficit in the third inning. By the sixth, Texas-Pan American saw themselves behind 5-1 on a three-run sixth.

The first five runs were credited to starting pitcher Leo Chang who pitched 5 1/13 innings and was tagged with the loss (0-3). Chang struck out five and walked three with three of the five runs given up earned.

Texas-Pan American managed to come back in the eighth with two runs scored on back-to-back plays. With bases loaded, Thomas Tovar singled to right driving in Garrett Bivone to make the score 5-2. Iradier Hernandez then singled up the middle to bring home Vincent Mejia to put UTPA back by two, 5-3.

North Dakota (7-20, 3-5) extended their lead late in the contest with a lone run in the ninth to put UTPA behind by three. Jabby Bakhit scored UND's final run of the evening on a RBI single up the middle by Josh Ray.

Stuart MacInnes finished 4-for-5 and Garrett Bivone 2-for-5 and a run scored.

North Dakota's Jeff Bunch finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Starting pitcher David Lind was awarded the win with 7 2/3 innings pitched. Lind fanned five and walked one.

The Broncs are back in competition this Tuesday, April 20 as Texas-Pan American hosts A&M-Corpus Christi for two beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
