Final Stats
SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Bronc baseball team fell 6-4 to the Centenary College Gents Friday evening at the Shehee Stadium in Shreveport, La.
The Gents took the early lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. UTPA responded in the top of the fifth with one run by sophomore catcher Mike McCarthy, who scored on a hit by freshman outfielder Bryant Elliott.
Following another three Centenary runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Broncs made a call to the bullpen bringing Doug Roth to mound for starting pitcher Cody Plunk.
Trey McGee scored the Gents' final run of the night in the bottom of the eighth inning after Keegan Acker advanced to first base on a walk, giving Centenary a five-run lead, 6-1.
Determined to make a comeback, the Broncs scored three runs in the top of the ninth. Garrett Bivone made it home first on hit by third baseman Billy Donaho. Following a single by Elliott who notched his second RBI for the night, McCarthy scored his second run of the night. The final run of the game was scored by Donaho after a single by designated hitter Angel Ibanez. Despite the rally, the Broncs could not secure the win.
McCarthy led the Broncs with 2 runs and 2 hits on 4 AB. Bivone tallied 1 run and 3 hits on 4 AB, and Donaho notched 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 hit on 2 AB.
The Broncs are now 9-9 for the season and continue this three-game series verses the Gents Saturday, April 3 at 6 p.m. (CT) and Sunday, April 4 at noon (CT).
