CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Bronc baseball team dropped a 17-2 afternoon decision to the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) Islanders Tuesday, April 27 at Chapman Field.

The Islanders grabbed an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. UTPA responded by making a call to the bullpen, replacing starting pitcher Kyle Kotchie with A.J. Franco. However the call was not enough to stop the Islanders, who scored one run in the second, and another three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

TAMUCC tallied another four runs in the bottom of the fourth before the Broncs scored one run in the fifth. The run came from senior Ryan Vest, who made it home on a wild pitch by the Islander's Jake Liedka.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Islanders first baseman Jake Olier posted 2 RBI's with a triple that gave TAMUCC an 14-1 lead.

After a scoreless seventh inning, the Broncs freshman pinch hitter Angel Ibanez homered, giving the Broncs their second and final run of the contest.

The Islanders scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, to clinch the 17-2 win over the Broncs.

Throughout the game, seven pitchers took the mound for UTPA. Vest led the Broncs with one run, two hits, followed by Ibanez with one run, one RBI.

This weekend, the Broncs (14-22, 3-8 GWC) travel to Orem, Utah to take on Great West Conference foe Utah Valley University in a four-game series April 30 through May 2.
