Broncs Fall 19-11 to Wolverines

Final Stats

The UTPA baseball team (14-23, 3-9) dropped a 19-11 decision to Utah Valley this Friday (April 30) evening at the Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem, UT.

Garrett Bivone finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Stuart MacInnes added a 2-for-4 plate appearance with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a double. Ryan Vest finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Mike McCarthy went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a run scored, a home run.

Texas-Pan American scored in 4-of-9 innings with four runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and a pair in the sixth. Back-to-back doubles in the second scored the Broncs first run of the second frame as Stuart MacInnes' double scored Garrett Bivone. An RBI single (by Ryan Vest) and a two-run home run by Mike McCarthy would score Texas-Pan American's three other runs of the inning.

Leading off in the third, Angel Ibanez hit a solo home run to right center. Ibanez finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, three runs scored, and a home run. An RBI double by Bivone would drive in Vincent Mejia from first. A single up the middle would then score MacInnes after he reached on a walk.

With bases loaded, MacInnes singled down the right field line to drive in Vincent Mejia and Angel Ibanez to tie the score at nine in the top of the fourth. The Broncs would score their final two runs of the evening in the sixth on a bases loaded single by Bryant Elliott, who replaced Thomas Tovar as designated hitter.

Utah Valley scored in all eight innings of play with a five-run second costing the Broncs. Utah Valley's Ryan Chadwick was tagged with his fourth win of the season in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Chadwick gave up five runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking three. Sam Armstrong also notched his first save of the year in 3 2/3 innings pitched with five strike outs and one walk.

UTPA's Kyle Kotchie was tagged with the loss with 2 2/3 innings pitched. Kotchie gave up five runs on seven hits with three strike outs and two walks.

The Broncs continue on with the weekend series with a doubleheader against Utah Valley slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT.
