Final Stats
The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team suffered a 4-3 setback to the Chicago State Cougars this Friday (May 14) afternoon at Olive-Harvey College in Chicago, IL.
The loss drops Texas-Pan American to 15-30 for the season and 4-16 in Great West Conference play, while improving Chicago State to 4-32 for the season and 2-19 in conference action.
Chicago State defeated the Broncs in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single by Billy Les after CSU tied the score in the seventh on a Kellon McFarlin fielder's choice.
Texas-Pan American scored their four runs in consecutive frames beginning in the second as Stuart MacInnes scored on a throwing error by the Cougars third baseman allowing Mike McCarthy to reach safely.
Angel Ibanez led off the third inning and opened the frame on a solo shot to right to tie the score at two runs apiece. MacInnes scored the final run on a RBI double by Billy Donaho to give the Broncs a 4-3 advantage before Chicago State rallied in the eighth. MacInnes finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of doubles.
Broncs starting pitcher Scott Wingo pitched his first complete game of the season and was tagged with the loss (2-2). Wingo fanned four Cougar batters, walked none, and gave up four runs - two which were earned.
Austin McDowell, who started off today's contest at third, closed the game and was credited with the win (1-8) in 1 1/3 innings of work. McDowell struck out one in four batters faced.
Competition continues tomorrow with a doubleheader slated to begin at 12 noon at Olive-Harvey College in Chicago, IL.
