Broncs Shutout by Northern Colorado

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program was shutout by the Northern Colorado Bears, 10-0, this Thursday (May 27) night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Day 2 of the 2010 Great West Conference Baseball Championships.

With today's loss, the Broncs drop to 21-33 for the season and 1-1 in tournament play, while Northern Colorado improves to 34-22 overall and 2-0 in tournament play.

"The guys put up a battle tonight, but in the end, the one who wanted it more was the victor. We had some guys shine on the defensive end and some on the offensive, but unfortunately, we couldn't put all the pieces together," said head coach Manny Mantrana.

Texas-Pan American was out-hit by Northern Colorado 18-7 as LF Abraham Garcia and RF Stuart MacInnes were the Broncs top hitters with two hits apiece. Garcia finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and extended his hit streak to 15 games, which leads the team, while MacInnes finished 2-for-4.

Freshman pitcher Luis Flores (4-2) picked up his second loss of the season in six innings of work. Northern Colorado's Joe Willman (7-5) pitched a complete game for the Bears as he fanned seven and walked two.

The Broncs continue in competition on Day 3 of the tournament as Texas-Pan American is slated to face the NJIT Highlanders at 7:30 p.m. NJIT is 13-43 for the season.
