SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Broncs volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-11) to the UTSA Roadrunners Friday, Sept. 10 in the first match of the UTSA Classic.
The first game of the match started close, but UTSA was quickly able to pull ahead of the Broncs. Throughout the set, Meghan Fichtel, Rita Gonzalez and Ijanae Holman chipped in kills to try to bring UTPA back into the game, the Roadrunners came out on top 25-13.
Senior Marci Logan notched the first point for the Broncs in game two. Additional kills by Logan and Kaitlin Vasquez helped UTPA remain close to the Roadrunners, but UTSA broke away and grabbed a 7 point lead 16-9. The Broncs came back and closed the deficit to three 20-17, but it was not enough to claim the set. UTSA won game two 25-19.
UTSA took control of the game three with a 7-0 lead. Points from Vasquez and Fichtel helped get UTPA back in the game; however, the Roadrunners continued with their momentum and closed the match with a 25-11 game three win.
UTSA Classic action continues Saturday, Sept. 11, when the Broncs will face Davidson at 10 a.m. and UTEP at 2 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 13, the UTPA will be back at home when they play host to Texas State at 6 p.m. at the UTPA Wellness and Recreational Complex.
