STILLWATER, Okla. – Junior guard Ce'Monay Newell led the Broncs this afternoon with 19 points, but UTPA (8-9) fell to the Oklahoma State University Cowgirls (11-1) 94-40 this afternoon in Stillwater, Okla.

Newell got the Broncs off to a strong start with a shot from behind the arc to score the first basket of the contest. Vicky McIntyre and Caroly Blair-Mobley both sunk shots for the Cowgirls, but a shot from the line from Adanna Opara and another three-point shot from Newell kept the Broncs on top 7-4 with 16:49 remaining in the first half.

A layup from Precious Robinson helped Oklahoma State 8-7 lead. Ashley Watson helped UTPA remain closely behind the Cowgirls with a layup that kept the Broncs within 5 points, 14-9. However, Blair-Mobley and Tiffany Bias were able to connect as the Cowgirls quickly built their lead.

Throughout the remainder of the first-half, Re-Shawndra Jackson scored two three-point shots and Newell made another from behind the arc to lead their squad, but the Cowgirls took a 46-20 lead into halftime. 

Newell came out fighting for the Broncs in the second half, with a jumper that was answered with a three-point shot by Cowgirl Lakyn Garrison, but Newell followed up with a shot from downtown for the Broncs to bring the score to 49-25 with 18:31 remaining in the second half.

UTPA fought back, but could not connect with the basket as Oklahoma State's lead grew.

Junior forward Ashley Watson stepped up for the Broncs, tallying two layups and jumper to try to close their deficit. Newell also fought back with a jumper and another shot from downtown to score the last basket of the game, but the Cowgirls came away with the 94-40 win.

Newell led the Broncs with 19 points, followed by Watson and Jackson, who both recorded 8 points.

The Broncs will be back in action Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to face the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
