BRONCS FACE SOUTH TEXAS RIVAL TAMUCC WEDNESDAY

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) women's basketball team travels to Corpus Christi, Texas to face South Texas Rival Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) for a 7 p.m. contest Wednesday, Jan. 5 at the American Bank Center.

The Broncs topped the Islanders 70-57 earlier this season in a match-up at the UTPA Fieldhouse Nov. 20.

UTPA (8-9) enters Wednesday's contest following back-to-back losses to nationally ranked programs. Sunday, the Broncs fell to No. 25 Oklahoma State and Thursday they dropped a decision to No. 1 Baylor. Earlier in the week, UTPA won a home matchup against Sam Houston State University. The Broncs remain undefeated this season on their home court.

Sophomore guard Bianca Torre leads the team with 18.1 points per game, followed by junior Ce'Monay Newell with 16.3 points per game.

Last week, TAMUCC (1-11) faced two Great West Conference (GWC) teams at the Lady Griz Classic. The Islanders fell 77-66 to North Dakota, and came away with their first win of the season 63-48 over Utah Valley University.

Senior guard Lauren Smith leads TAMUCC with 12.3 points per game, and senior forward Adrienne Scott 11.3 points per contest.

Wednesday's matchup marks the Broncs' last non-conference game of the season. UTPA will kick-off a five-game stretch on the road against New Jersey Institute of Technology Jan. 13 at 11 a.m.

Prior to the game, UTPA's Office of Alumni Relations will host a pregame mixer for UTPA Alumni and fans at Brewster Street Ice House from 5-6:30 p.m. UTPA Athletic Director Chris King and President Dr. Robert S. Nelsen will also be in attendance.
