BRONCS FALL TO WOLVERINES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT LOSS

EDINBURG, Texas- The University of Texas Pan American (UTPA) volleyball team suffered its second straight loss after falling to the Utah Valley Wolverines 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) Thursday night at the UTPA Fieldhouse. 
 
The Broncs (5-16, 1-3) grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the opening set after a kill by Diara Reynolds.  UVU grabbed the lead after an ace by Brookelyn Campbell and would not relinquish the lead in the first set.  After A kill by Michelle McNamee that made it 9-5 in favor of the Wolverines, Utah Valley (15-6, 4-0) went on a 7-1 run to push their lead to 16-6.  UVU grabbed the first set 25-16 after a Bronc service error.
 
In the second set, UTPA fell behind 4-0 after an ace by Chelsey Heaps. The Broncs battled back to tie things up at five with a kill by Maria Kliefoth.  It was a back and forth contest as there were six ties in the second set.  The final tie was at 16 before the Wolverines finished off the set on a 9-4 run capped off by an ace by Heaps giving UVU the second set 25-20.
 
 In the final set, the Broncs grabbed the 2-0 lead after a kill by Krysta Freitas.  Utah Valley then tied the set at six on a kill by Sarah Clement.  The Wolverines never looked back as they went on a 7-2 to run to grab the 13-8 lead.  UTPA got within four after a UVU error but the Wolverines ended up with the 25-18 third set victory and the match.
 
Sarah Davis led the way for the Broncs as she had team-high nine kills.  Juri Franzen had 12 digs defensively while Shauna Miller had 17 assists. 
 
Erica Nish and Clement led UVU with 11 kills.  McKenna Tait recorded 14 digs while Heaps added 13 digs of her own and Brookelyn Campbell had 33 assists.     
 
The Broncs return to action on Saturday afternoon as they welcome North Dakota to the UTPA Fieldhouse for another Great West Conference match up.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
