HOUSTON, Texas- The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team hits the road for their final two games of the season as they travel to Houston to face the Texas Southern Tigers on Friday and the Houston Baptist Huskies on Saturday.
The Broncs are coming off of a 3-2 (25-27, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 12-15) loss to Great West Conference foe Chicago State. The Broncs and the Cougars split the first four sets before heading to the fifth and decisive set. The Broncs led the fifth set 11-10 but the Cougars clawed back for the 15-12 victory and giving them the match.
Michelle McNamee recorded 12 kills and also added four digs.
Sarah Davis and
Diara Reynolds both added 11 kills.
Juri Franzen led the defense with 35 digs and
Shauna Miller had 44 assists for the offense.
On the season,
Ijanae Holman leads the Broncs with 2.14 kills per set while
Shauna Miller averages 7.26 assists per set for the offense.
Juri Franzen paces the defense with 4.25 digs per set and also has a team-high 31 service aces.
The Broncs defeated Texas Southern 3-0 back on October 18 at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Maria Kliefoth and
Krysta Freitas led the way past the Tigers with 10 kills each while
Juri Franzen led the defense with 18 digs.
Houston Baptist is coming off of a 3-0 victory over NJIT on November 5. Jolie Graf led the way for the Huskies with 18 kills.
On the season for HBU, Heather Leaverton leads the team with 2.58 kills per set while Graf averages 2.17 kills per set. Defensively, Courtney Whittleman averages 5.43 digs per set and Leaverton also adds 2.39 digs per set.
The Broncs fell to the Huskies in their last meeting 3-0 on October 8
th.
Krysta Freitas had nine kills for the Broncs and Graf had nine kills for HBU.
The match against the Tigers is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and the match with HBU is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
