BRONCS FALL TO HBU IN SEASON FINALE

HOUTON, Texas- The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball team wrapped up their regular season schedule with a 3-0 (15-25, 9-25, 13-25) loss to the Houston Baptist Huskies Saturday afternoon at Sharp Gym.
 
The Broncs (8-23, 1-9 GWC) quickly got on the board in the first set with a service ace by Shauna Miller that made it 1-0.  Later in the first set, the Broncs extended their lead 8-6 after a block by Sarah Davis.  Houston Baptist tied the set at nine with a kill by Isis Gardner and then grabbed the 10-9 lead on a kill by Caiti Wenger.  The Huskies went on a 9-4 run to extend their lead to 19-13 and then later Heather Leaverton recorded a kill to give the Huskies the 25-15 first set victory.
 
UTPA quickly fell behind in the second set 8-1 on another kill by Gardner.  HBU then went on a 12-4 run to extend their lead 20-5 which was snapped by a Diara Reynolds kill.  Gardner closed out the set with another kill giving HBU the 25-9 second set win.
 
In the third set, Diara Reynolds got things started for the Broncs with a kill that made it 1-0.  HBU quickly responded with a 5-1 run to grab the lead.  Errors by the Broncs helped the Huskies push their lead to 12-4.  UTPA cut the deficit to six points after Shana Miller recorded a kill which made it 16-10.  The Huskies closed out the match and the set on a 9-3 rally to grab the 25-13 third set victory.
 
Diara Reynolds led the Broncs with nine kills and also added six digs.  Shauna Miller recorded 10 assists while Macey Singleton added six assists of her own.  Juri Franzen led the defense with 10 digs.  Ijanae Holman also added six digs and two kills.
 
Caiti Wenger and Christie Dorch recorded nine kills a piece with Dorch adding six digs.  Courtney Whittleman led the defense with 14 digs and Victoria Weatherly chipped in with 11 digs of her own. 
 
The Broncs now will get ready for the Great West Conference tournament on Nov. 17 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
