WOLVERINES RALLY IN 2ND HALF TO KNOCK OFF BRONCS 82-70

OREM, Utah – The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team could not hold off a second half surge from Utah Valley University as the Broncs dropped their third straight road game 82-70 to the Wolverines Saturday night at the UVU Activities Center. The game was the final road contest of the season for Texas-Pan American.

The Broncs (10-17, 2-7 GWC) claimed the lead at 6-4 after Torre hit her first three-pointer of the game with 17:14 to play in the period. UTPA led by seven with 9:52 to play until he intermission as Re-Shawndra Jackson knocked in a three giving the Broncs a 26-19 advantage.

Utah Valley (5-18, 3-5 GWC) responded with a 10-2 run with Samime Jensen's trey putting the Wolverines back in front at 29-28 with 7:06 to play in the period. The UVU advantage was short lived. UTPA responded with a 7-0 run as another Jackson three gave UTPA the 35-29 advantage with 4:33 to play until the intermission.

The Broncs led at the break 45-41 after shooting 49% from the field, and they hit five of their six three-point attempts in the first twenty minutes of the game. Torre scored 17 points to lead the Broncs at intermission.

The Wolverines rallied to begin the second half by scoring the first eight points over the first 4:18 of the period to take a 49-45 advantage. The Broncs would not see the lead again. The Broncs did not earn second half points until Donna Jackson's jumper at the 14:33 mark as the Broncs pulled back within two at 49-47.

UTPA tied the game at 55 when Adanna Opara hit the first of two free-throws. That would be as close as UTPA got to the lead for the remainder of the game. UVU responded with a 17-5 run with Kaycee Mansfield's three with 3:24 to play in the game pushed the Wolverine lead to 12 at 72-60.

The second half shooting for UTPA was a mirror image of their first half performance. The Broncs hit just eight of 32 field goal attempts (25%) and hit just two of 11 three-point attempts (18.2%) in the second half. The Wolverines got a 15 point second half performance from Abbie Beutler to assist with the UVU rally.

Torre led the Broncs with a game high 22 points adding a pair of rebounds and assists. Donna Jackson scored 12 and added eight boards. Re-Shawndra Jackson chipped in with 11 points while Adanna Opara scored nine with a team-high 11 boards. The Broncs shot 37% from the field for the game.

Beutler's game-high 27 points and 11 assists led UVU. Jensen contributed to the Wolverine cause with 20 points and a team0high tying 14 boards. Mansfield also hauled in 14 rebounds for UVU. Jenna Johnson scored 17 points to round out the top scorers for the Wolverines.

The Broncs wrap up their Great West Conference schedule with a three game homestand. The Broncs kick off their season ending trio of games next Saturday as they face the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a 5:30 PM tip-off. The match-up versus NJIT will be the front-end of a Homecoming Night doubleheader. The UTPA men's team will face NJIT after the conclusion of the women's game.
