GAME NOTES
EDINBURG, Texas - The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) baseball team begins a three game series on Friday night as they battle Centenary College of Louisiana at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Game one begins at 6:00 pm. On Saturday the two schools will play a doubleheader with the first half getting underway at 1:00 pm.
The Broncs (6-8) are coming off back-to-back losses to Louisiana Tech last weekend. The Broncs won the first game of their series with the Bulldogs 10-8, before dropping a Saturday doubleheader with scores of 9-5, and 5-4. The 10 runs scored by the Broncs on Friday marked a new season high.
The Broncs are led at the plate by
Stuart MacInnes who has a team high batting average of .391 with a hit total of 18. Freshman
Colton Van Komen has been pushing his way into the line up with his .357 average and five RBI.
Mike McCarthy, who had a season high 5 RBI in the 10-8 win over LaTech, leads the club in RBIs with 8.
Cody Plunk (1-2, 4.18 ERA) will take the ball for the Broncs on Friday. Plunk leads the club in appearances with six and in innings pitched at 23.2.
The Gentleman (3-10) are coming off of a four-game set in Hawaii where the Rainbows took all four from Centenary. The Gents are in the middle of a 17-game road swing and are losers of five in a row.
The Gents are led by junior slugger Kyle Morton who leads his club with three homers and five RBIs. Freshman RJ Talamantes is also a top performer for the Gents with 289 average and a team-leading 13 hits, 10 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
Centenary will give the ball to RHP Ryan Maldonado (0-0, 7.00 ERA) who will be making his first start of the season for the Gents.
The Broncs are 5-2 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium this season, while Centenary is 1-9 outside of Shreveport.
