BRONCS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WITH HARD FOUGHT VICTORY OVER CSU

CHICAGO, Illinois - The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team notched their third consecutive victory, and their first win in Great West Conference play with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-14, 15-4) win over Chicago State University Thursday night at the Jacoby Dickens Center. 

The Broncs (4-13, 1-0 GWC) and Cougars (1-16, 0-1 GWC) traded the first four sets in back and forth fashion. The first four sets saw a combined 27 ties and 13 lead changes. The Broncs took control of the final set early and breezed past CSU 15-4.

The Broncs were led by junior hitter Ijanae Holman who posted her fifth double-double of the season with a career high 20 kills and 17 digs. Freshman hitter Diara Reynolds chipped in with a career high of her own with 13 kills on 27 total attacks. Krysta Freitas and Sarah Davis each posted eight kills to aid the UTPA offense.

The Broncs set up the attack with Shauna Miller's fifth 30+ assist match of the season as she posted 31 helpers on Thursday. Macey Singleton added 18 assists of her own.

On the defensive side of the ball libero Juri Franzen added 16 digs while Freitas chipped in with 13.

For the Cougars, Rachel Levit and Alexandra Mason led their attack with nine kills apiece. Angelica Brewer chipped in with eight kills. Setter Emily Kramolisch posted 35 assists to set up the attack. On the defensive side Mysta Townsell posted 22 digs to lead for the Cougars.

The Broncs continue their road swing on Saturday night when the travel to Newark, NJ to take on NJIT (5-11, 0-1 GWC) in conference action. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time from the Fleisher Athletic Center on the NJIT campus.
