BOX SCORE

WACO, Texas- The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team dropped their second match at the Baylor Classic with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-19) defeat at the hands of host Baylor University. The Broncs will play their final match of the tournament later this afternoon against McNeese State.

The Broncs (1-5) struggled out of the gate as Baylor scored the first six points of the opening set to take the large early advantage. The score was 8-2 when the Bears began another strong run, tallying seven straight for a 15-2 advantage. The two teams were virtually even for the rest of the set but the lead was too much for the Broncs to make-up. Baylor and UTPA went 10-7 over the final stretch respectively giving the Bears the momentum out of the first set.

In the second set, the Broncs fell behind again with Baylor taking the early 6-1 lead. A kill from Alyssa Dibbern made the score 23-14 Baylor, their largest lead of the set. The Broncs then began to rally with Macey Singleton's service ace capping off a 5-1 run to pull the Broncs to within 24-19. However, the rally ended abruptly as Adri Nora ended the set with a kill to give Baylor the 2-0 advantage.

In the final set the Broncs and Bears had a battle that included six ties and three lead changes. Krysta Freitas's kill gave the Broncs a 13-11 lead. Later a Baylor attack error gave the Broncs the largest lead of the set at 17-14. What followed was a furious 9-0 run by the Bears capped off by a Brianna Tolbert block, giving the Bears a 23-17 lead. The Broncs could not rally back as they traded the next four points to give the Bears the 25-19 win of the set and 3-0 win of the match.

Michelle McNamee led the Broncs in kills with five while Freitas added four kills and 10 digs. Franzen led the way defensively with 11 digs. Tolbert had the top offensive game for Baylor with 11 kills and 19 total attacks.
