VOLLEYBALL BRONCS WELCOME TEXAS TECH FOR HOME OPENER TUESDAY

EDINBURG, Texas - The University of Texas - Pan American volleyball team opens the home half of their schedule on Tuesday night as they welcome the Red Raiders of Texas Tech University to the UTPA Fieldhouse. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time.

The Broncs (1-6) are coming off a rough showing at the Baylor Inivtational over the weekend. The young Broncs, who have just four upperclassmen on their roster, did not register a set victory over the weekend. UTPA fell to Northern Colorado, McNeese State and tournament host Baylor by 3-0 final scores.

Junior hitter Ijanae Holman paces the Broncs on offense with 2.89 kills per set. Freshman Michelle McNamee has stepped up recently by picing up the team lead in kills with nine in the Broncs loss to McNeese State on Saturday. Defensively, Juri Franzen is the team leader with 4.94 digs per set.

The Red Raiders (5-1) enter Tuesday on a five match winning streak. After an opening night 3-0 road loss to in-state rival TCU, the Red Raiders have won 14 consecutive sets and 15 of 16 sets during their streak. The Red Raiders are also coming off a sweep of their own Red Raider Inivitational where they posted wins over Central Arkansas (3-0), Northwestern State (3-0) and Moorehead State (3-1).

Texas Tech is led offensivelyby Amanda Dowdy who averages 4.28 kills per set, and by Miara Cave who averages 3.44 kills per set with a .397 hitting percentage. Dowdy also picks it up on the defensive side with 4.33 digs per set.

Tueday will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two school with the Red Raiders winning the previous five matches. The two schools will be facing off for the first time since the 2008 season. This will be the first trip to Edinburg for Texas Tech since they competed and won the UTPA Classic back in 2006.
