EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team went on a 41-8 run in the first portion of the second half to come back from down 11 and beat the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 77-65 on Tuesday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The Broncs (1-2) were within 24-23 after a LaQuita Garner three-pointer with 2:36 remaining in the first half. Marequesha Anderson-Sparks converted a three-point play and then hit two more free throws to spark a 10-0 run by the Islanders (0-2) that saw them go up 34-23 with 19:43 remaining in the second half.

At the 19:25 mark, KaeLynn Boyd hit her first of back-to-back layups to get the Broncs back on the board. The offense picked up in a big way from there, as Harlingen-native Bianca Torre and Alexandria Hill each hit three three-pointers as part of a 41-8 run that saw the Broncs go up 64-44 with 9:30 remaining. The Broncs more than doubled their score, from 23-to-48, in the first five minutes of the run.

Torre finished with a game-high 23 points while hitting five three-pointers. Boyd scored 13 points with a game-high four assists and Joyea Marshall narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Cassandra Moody led the Broncs in rebounds with 12 as the Broncs won the rebounding battle 41-to-33, including 20-to-12 on the offensive glass.

Ashley Darley led the Islanders with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with five rebounds and five steals. Janae Blount also reached double-figures with 13 points.
