HOUSTON – Sophomore guard
Jasmine Thompson recorded her first-career double-double, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the Rice University Owls 75-54 on Friday at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Thompson led the Broncs (5-8) with 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Freshman forward
Joyea Marshall also reached double-figures, scoring 10 points.
Marshall went 3-for-3 from the field as the Broncs hit their first four shots to jump out to an 8-4 lead.
Jessica Kuster scored seven of the next 14 points as the Owls (7-4), winners of five in a row, responded with a 14-0 run to take an 18-8 lead with 15:15 remaining in the first half.
The Broncs came back to within three at 31-28 on a Marshall layup 10 minutes later, but the Owls scored the final seven points of the first half as part of a 12-2 run that made it 43-30 on a Kuster jumper with 17:31 to go.
Kuster finished with her fifth double-double in six games, scoring a game-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds.
Zoe Rogers scored 16 points and
Christal Porter recorded a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Broncs return to action on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. when they visit UTEP.
