EDINBURG, Texas -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team (5-0) kicks off a five-game homestand with the first of three games against the Arlington Baptist College Patriots on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

  • This is the Broncs' first ever meeting with the Patriots
  • The Broncs are off to a 5-0 start for the second year in a row. This is the sixth time in program history, dating back to 1955, that the Broncs are off to at least a 5-0 start. The Broncs were at least 6-0 twice and 9-0 once. The last time the Broncs were 6-0 was 1979, when they started the season 9-0.
  • This is the second year in a row that the Broncs have won their first five games of the season.
  • The only other coach in program history to achieve a start of at least 5-0 is Hall of Famer Al Ogletree, who did so in 1988 (5-0), 1979 (9-0), 1978 (5-0) and 1976 (6-0).

  • Making his first start since February, 20, 2011, Jonathan Sa pitched 6.1 innings, allowing one run on seven hits while racking up a career-high six strikeouts. Sa didn't allow a run until the seventh inning.
  • Zach Zouzalik recorded his second win of the year, striking out both batters he faced.
  • Edinburg-native Austin Casas struck out two in two hitless innings for his first save.
