Broncs Swept by Wolverines

Box Score

OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University Wolverines completed the four-game sweep of the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team by beating the Broncs 13-3 on Saturday at Brent Brown Ballpark.

The game ended during a four-run eighth that was capped by a walk-off RBI-single by Jake Rickenbach due to the 10-run rule.

The Wolverines (26-11, 12-0 GWC) jumped on Broncs (21-11, 8-4 GWC) starter Dylan Badura (2-2), tagging him for four runs in one-third of an inning. Billy Burgess hit a two-run triple while Goose Kallunki had an RBI-single and later stole home.

The Broncs got one back right away as Vincent Mejia drew a four-pitch walk and later scored on a single by Mike McCarthy, but an Austin Heaps sacrifice fly and a two-run double by Kallunki made it 7-1 Wolverines after two innings.

The Broncs plated a run on the fourth on a wild pitch and another in the fifth on an RBI-single by Mission-native Angel Ibanez to pull within 7-3, but Alex Exon hit a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI-double in the eighth to push the game out of reach.

That made a winner of Taylor Magnum (2-0), who pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Broncs return to action on Friday when they visit Chicago State University for game one of a four-game series at 3:00 p.m.
