Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team is on its longest winning streak in five years following a 3-1 victory over the Texas Southern University Tigers on Thursday at the TSU Health and Physical Education Building.

The Broncs (7-10) are now winners of four in a row, a feat last accomplished September 14-15, 2007, when the Broncs swept a pair of doubleheaders, including a victory over the Tigers (5-10)

After dropping the first set 25-22, the Broncs breezed through the next two sets, 25-14 and 25-17. The fourth set, however, featured multiple set points. The Broncs took their largest lead at 17-12 on a service ace by Ijanae Holman, but the Tigers chipped away and came back to take a 21-20 lead on a kill by Robyn Shannon who followed that with an attack error to allow the Broncs to pull even at 21-21. The teams traded points until the Broncs had their first chance at match point, leading 25-24. A service error by Holman tied the set at 25-25. The Broncs got another chance at match point at 26-25, but the Tigers took the next two points to have an opportunity at set point leading 27-26. An attack error by Mona Reed tied the set again, but a kill by Veronica Azubuike gave the Tigers one more opportunity at set point. Haley Durham came up with a kill and then Krysta Freitas and Sarah Davis combined on a block to give the Broncs match point again at 29-28. Shannon came up with one last kill to stave off the Broncs, but a service error by Jyra Churchill and an attack error by Shannon allowed the Broncs to come away with a 31-29 win.

Michelle McNamee led the Broncs with a career-high 16 kills and nine digs. Diara Reynolds was second with 13 kills while Davis had 12 kills on 18 attacks with just two errors for a match-best .556 hitting percentage.

Nycole Masaki had 36 of the Broncs' 43 assists, a greater total than the entire Tigers team, which finished with 31.

Shannon and Reed led the Tigers with 12 kills each.

The Broncs go for their fifth-straight victory for the first time since October 25 through November 10, 2003, when they open up Great West Conference play at the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
