EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team used a 30-9 run in the middle of the game to breeze past the Houston Baptist University Huskies 71-45 on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The Broncs (7-12, 1-2 Great West Conference) made a change in the starting lineup, inserting freshman KaeLynn Boyd as the starting point guard and sliding senior and Harlingen-native Bianca Torre to the shooting guard position. The move paid immediate dividends, as Torre hit a three-pointer and Boyd hit four-straight shots to give the Broncs an 11-4 lead in the opening three and a half minutes.

The Huskies (4-15, 0-1 GWC) fought back over the next 10 minutes to take a 16-15 lead, but the Broncs responded with a 30-9 run over the final six and a half minutes of the first half and first eight minutes of the second half to take a 46-24 lead and put the game out of reach.

Boyd finished with eight points, six rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. Torre finished with nine points on three three-pointers to go with six assists and three steals. Three Broncs reached double-figures in scoring, led by Jasmine Thompson and Joyea Marshall, who both scored 11 points with six rebounds. Johnondra Patterson scored 10 points with six rebounds.

Erin McGarachan led the Huskies with 18 points.

The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. when they visit the University of New Orleans.
