Women's Basketball Falls at CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, California – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners 85-62 on Tuesday at the Icardo Center.
 
Sophomore guard Jasmine Thompson led the Broncs (5-11) with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, nine rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots.
 
Amber Williams was one of two Roadrunners (4-15) in double-figures, leading all scorers with 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including 7-of-14 from behind the arc, while dishing out five assists. Janae Coffee narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, 17 rebounds (six offensive) and nine blocks.
 
The game was tied at 8-8 in the opening five and a half minutes, but a Williams three-pointer with 14:29 remaining in the first half sparked a 15-0 run, during which time Williams had eight points, to put the Roadrunners ahead 28-14 four minutes later.
 
The Broncs trailed 56-36 with 16:34 remaining, but Thompson hit a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run as the Broncs pulled within 56-45 three minutes later.
 
The Broncs were within 60-49 with 9:32 left, but the Roadrunners responded with a 13-2 run, during which Williams hit two three-pointers, to push the game out of reach.
 
The Broncs return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they conclude this six-game road trip with a Great West Conference contest at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
