KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team fell to the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos 3-0 on Thursday at Swinney Recreation Center.
The Kangaroos (10-7, 4-1 WAC) won the first set 25-18, the second set 25-11 and the third set 25-18.
Freshman
Alisha Watson led the Broncs (10-11, 0-5 WAC) with a match-high 10 kills and 10 digs for the double-double to go with a .333 hitting percentage. Senior
Nycole Masaki had a match-high 24 assists. Junior
Shanice Faison recorded a match-best 11 digs.
Skyler Muff and
Sydney Crimmins led the Kangaroos with eight kills each. Miff hit .412 while Crimmins hit .316.
Nicole Wemhoff recorded a team-high 14 assists.
Taryn Miller had a team-high nine digs.
Emma Hagedorn finished with a match-high six blocks.
The Kangaroos hopped out to a 7-1 first set lead thanks in-part to two kills by Muff. The Broncs responded with a 6-2 run to pull within 9-7 on a
Krysta Freitas kill. The Broncs were still within two at 15-13 after an attack error by
Kaylyn Brandt, but the Kangaroos responded with an 8-2 run to pull away for a 1-0 lead.
The Broncs were within 4-3 on a
Haley Durham kill in the second set, but the Kangaroos went on a 10-1 run to go up 14-4 en route to taking a 2-0 lead.
The third set was tight early, with the Broncs holding a 7-6 lead after a Durham kill. The Broncs were within 12-11 after a Watson kill, but Kangaroos went on a 6-1 run, capped by a Hagedorn kill, to take an 18-12 lead. The Broncs pulled back within 19-17 on an ace by Freitas, but the Kangaroos closed the match on a 6-1 run to cement the win.
The Broncs are back in action when they visit Chicago State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
