The Broncs trailed 20-14 in the first set, but after a timeout, embarked on a 9-2 run on the power of three Sanchez kills to take a 23-22 lead. Back-to-back kills by
Matea Mamic brought the Redhawks to set point, but sophomore
Haley Durham followed up with two kills of her own to put the Broncs up 25-24. An Ivanis kill tied the set, but a bad set by
Allison Farley again opened the door for the Broncs at 26-25. A Sanchez service error tied the set and then kills by Stoll and Ivanis put the Redhawks up 1-0.
The Redhawks jumped out to a 12-4 second set lead, and maintained that lead, going up 23-15. The Broncs scored the next five to pull within 23-20, but that's as close as they got.
The Broncs took the big early lead in the third set, going up 11-5 on a kill by Sanchez. The Redhawks got as close as two at 14-12 and 15-13 on kills by
Martina Samadan, and then 16-14 on an
Allison Farley kill, but the Broncs out scored the Redhawks 9-4 to pull away.
The Broncs had an early lead in the fourth set, going up 7-5 on an attack error by Lacy, but the Redhawks went on a 13-5 run to take an 18-12 lead. The Redhawks still led by six at 20-14, when the Broncs used kills by Kliefoth, freshman
Alisha Watson and Sanchez to pull within 23-21, but after a Seattle U timeout, Stoll came up with a kill and Ivanis served up an ace to end the match.
The Broncs kick-off a four-match road trip on Thurs., Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at Kansas City.
