LUBBOCK – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the Texas Tech University Red Raiders 70-48 on Sunday at United Spirit Arena.
Juniors
Cherrell Price and
Cha'zaye Wright led the Broncs (1-1) with nine points each. Junior
Brittany Bush had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Amber Battle led the Red Raiders (1-0) with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Shauntal Nobles also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Broncs led 5-2 in the opening minutes in the opening two minutes on a three-pointer by Price and free throws by Bush. The Red Raiders scored the six next points to take the lead, but Price buried another three to tie the game at 8-8. The Broncs and Red Raiders traded the next four baskets, with a jumper by freshman
Shawnte' Goff tying it at 10-10, and a jumper by sophomore
Rickell Preston tying it at 12-12 with 13:06 remaining in the first half.
The Raiders scored nine-straight points to go up 21-12. Free throws by junior
Tonisha Walker and a jumper by Wright got the Broncs within five, but the Red Raiders went on a 15-2 run over the final five minutes of the half to push the game out of reach.
The Broncs are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. when they host Texas Lutheran at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 6.
