SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team defeated the Norfolk State Spartans 50-36 Friday night at the UTSA Convocation Center to kick off the 2013 UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.
 
The Broncs (3-2) were led by Shawnte' Goff, who had 14 points and five rebounds. KaeLynn Boyd and Brittany Bush added eight points each while Boyd added five steals and four assists.
 
Quineshia Leonard scored nine points and eight rebounds to lead the Spartans (2-3). Rachel Gordon grabbed a game-high 26 rebounds.
 
The Broncs fell behind early as Norfolk State jumped out to a 5-0 first half lead but a three-pointer by Goff tied the game at five. After a three-pointer by Kieera Basey gave Norfolk the 8-5 lead, the Broncs then went on a10-0 run to take the 18-8 lead. The Broncs took a 24-15 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, Cha'zaye Wright added to the Broncs lead with a three-pointer making it 31-20 with 15:56 left in the game. Brittany Bush posted back-to-back buckets with 8:18 left in the game to make it 42-28 Broncs. Jasmine Thompson closed out the scoring with a layup giving the Broncs the 50-35 victory.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday against Northern Iowa at 10 p.m. to close out the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.
