Bush Records Double-Double to Lead Broncs to Victory

SAN ANTONIO – Junior Brittany Bush recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team past the Northern Iowa Panthers 70-47 on Saturday to close out the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic at the UTSA Convocation Center.  
 
The Broncs (4-2) had three other players in double figures as KaeLynn Boyd scored a season-high 17 points and added five assists with five rebounds. Shawnte' Goff added 14 points with five rebounds and two steals while Tonisha Walker scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds.
 
Stephanie Davison led the Panthers (2-5) with 15 points and six rebounds. Hannah Schonhardt added 10 points with five rebounds.
 
The Broncs jumped out to an early 17-2 lead after Walker hit a layup with 12:48 left in the first half. The Panthers then answered with a 15-3 run to cut UTPA's lead 20-14. Goff knocked down a three-pointer with 4:53 left in the half to push the Broncs' lead to 32-24 taking a 38-27 lead into halftime.
 
The Panthers cut the Broncs' lead down to seven points to start the second half before a pair of free throws from Bush made it 40-31 UTPA. Boyd made a layup with 11:30 left in the game to push the lead to 47-36. Another three-pointer by Boyd pushed the lead to 57-42 before closing out the game with the final 10 points for the 70-47 victory.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Tuesday at 5:30 when they face Houston Baptist.
