WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the host Wichita State University Shockers 69-40 on Sunday at Charles Koch Arena in the final game of the Wichita State Winter Classic.
Junior
Jasmine Thompson led the Broncs (6-6) with 10 points and four rebounds. Junior
Cherrell Price grabbed a career-high and game-high eight rebounds.
Michelle Price led three Shockers (9-2) in double-figures scoring with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting with five rebounds and two steals.
Alie Decker scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with four steals.
Alex Harden scored 10 points.
The Shockers scored the first 11 points of the game, capped by a pair of three-point plays by Price. Layups by sophomore
Rickell Preston and
Cherrell Price brought the Broncs within nine at 11-2 and 13-4, but a layup by Michelle Price pushed the Shockers lead into double-figures for the rest of the game.
Down 44-23 in the opening minutes of the second half, the Broncs scored the next eight points on two free throws and a jumper by Thompson, a layup by junior
T'Ondria Nolen and a jumper by junior
Tonisha Walker to pull within 44-31, but the Shockers responded with a 22-4 run to push the game out of reach.
The Broncs are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. when they visit No. 13 Oklahoma State.
