STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the No. 11 Oklahoma State University Cowgirls 90-48 at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday to close out their non-conference schedule.
Freshman
Shawnte' Goff led the Broncs (6-7) with 11 points and five rebounds as she went a perfect three-for-three from behind the three-point line. Sophomore
Alexandria Hill add eight points while juniors
Jasmine Thompson and
Cherrell Price chipped in five points each.
Liz Donohoe recorded a double-double for the Cowgirls (11-0) with 21 points and 16 rebounds. LaShawn Jones added 16 points and six rebounds while Tiffany Bias added 11 points with five assists.
Oklahoma State jumped out to the early 6-2 lead but the Broncs got within one after a three-pointer by Goff that made it 6-5. Later in the first half, Donohoe knocked down a jumper for the Cowgirls that extended their lead to 20-9 with 10:25 left in the half. The Broncs closed out the half with a three-pointer from Hill that capped an 8-0 run as the Cowgirls took the 33-21 lead into halftime.
The Cowgirls opened up the second half on a 13-0 run to push their lead to 46-21. Goff knocked down another three-pointer with 12:51 left in the game that made it 52-28. Later in the second half, Goff knocked down another three with 9:21 left in the game making it 68-38 but Oklahoma State didn't allow the Broncs back into it as they put the game away.
The Broncs are back in action on Thursday when they open conference play against Grand Canyon at the UTPA Fieldhouse with the tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
