EDINBURGFranchesca Simon hit a floater in the lane to give the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team the lead with four seconds left, but Sammie Jensen went coast-to-coast for a layup to send the Utah Valley University Wolverines to a 51-50 win over the Broncs on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

Jensen was the only Wolverine (11-14, 5-1 GWC) in double-figures, but she scored a game-high 21 points with a game-high 21 rebounds (five offensive) on 9-of-19 shooting.

Two Broncs (9-15, 2-4 Great West Conference) reached double-figures, led by Cassandra Moody, who scored a career-high 20 points with 12 rebounds and four blocks. Harlingen-native Bianca Torre scored 11 points.

The game was tight throughout the first half. In the second half, the Broncs found themselves down 28-23 after five minutes, but Torre hit a three to spark a 16-4 run that saw the Broncs go up 39-32. The Wolverines responded with an 11-3 run, capped by a Jensen three that gave the Wolverines a 43-42 lead with 3:53 remaining.

The game went back and forth the rest of the way as Moody made a layup to put the Broncs up 44-43, but a Kaycee Mansfield three-point play made it 46-44. A Torre layup tied it up, but a Jensen free throw made it 47-46 Wolverines. Simon and Jensen traded baskets over the final 41 seconds, but Jensen hit the last shot and KaeLynn Boyd's half court heave at the buzzer missed wide left.

The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they visit Houston Baptist.
