EDINBURG – Playing in the second to last home game of her storied career, Harlingen South alum Bianca Torre hit a baseline jumper with 5.1 seconds left to lift the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team past the University of New Orleans Privateers 60-59 on Wednesday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

Torre led the Broncs (11-15) with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including three three-pointers. Cassandra Moody recorded her second double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Mechel'le Thomas led the Privateers (3-22) with 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc plus 6-of-8 from the foul line. Mirjam Sipos scored 13 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Yasmin Taylor scored nine points with a game-high 18 rebounds.

After the Broncs used an 8-2 run to take a 35-30 lead early in the second half, the Privateers outscored the Broncs 25-14 over the next 11:02 to take their largest lead of the game at 55-49 on a Kerri Thomas jumper with 3:37 remaining. Moody hit a layup 44 seconds later to spark a 7-0 run to put the Broncs up 56-55. Mechel'le Thomas hit a pair of free throws to put the Privateers back on top with 54 seconds left, but a Moody layup on the ensuing possession made it 58-57 Broncs. Thomas came through again, this time with a layup with 27 seconds left to give the Privateers a 59-58 lead, but Torre made the game-winning basket and Joyea Marshall stole the second pass of the Privateers' final possession to end the game.

The Broncs close out the regular season with a senior day celebration on Saturday, March 9 at 4:30 p.m. when they host Chicago State at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
