– The Lamar University Cardinals used a five-run seventh inning to defeat the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team 6-0 Sunday afternoon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the final day of the Al Ogletree Classic.

The Cardinals (18-3) took the lead in the first inning without recording a hit. V.J. Bunner reached on a fielding error to start the inning and then came around to score on a throwing error which made it 1-0.

Jonathan Dziedzic (3-1) made that run last as he pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just five hits while striking out eight for his third win of the season.

The Broncs' (4-11) starter, Matt Daniels (0-2), kept his team in the game allowing four runs, two earned during his six and a third innings pitched while taking the loss.

Lamar added to their lead in the top of the seventh. The Cardinals batted around as they scored five runs on just two hits and one error. Seth Dornak highlighted the inning with a two-run single making it 6-0.

Travis Moore then came on to pitch two scoreless innings in relief of Dziedzic and closed out the ball game for Lamar.

The Broncs are back in action on Friday March 22 as they begin a three-game series with Arlington Baptist at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
