EDINBURG – Broncs starter
Sam Street four-hit the Arlington Baptist Patriots while pitching his first-career shutout to lead the University of Texas-Pan American baseball team to a 10-0 victory on Friday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The game ended after six and a half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Street (4-1) struck out six without allowing an extra-base hit or a walk. He needed just 76 pitches (58 strikes) to complete his seven innings of work. Street allowed just two hits over his final six innings, one of which didn't leave the infield.
Hitting third for the first time, PSJA High School alum
Bryan Ramirez led the Broncs (5-11) offensively by going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run scored.
Shane Klemcke went 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored,
Alex Howe went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run while
Derek Hagy went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Broncs' nine through three hitters combined to go 9-for-13 (.692).
The only Patriot (9-25) with multiple hits was
Hector Moreno, who went 2-for-3.
The Broncs led off the game with three-straight singles against
Matt Guinn, the last of which drove in a run courtesy of Ramirez.
Will Klausing followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
The Broncs put two on with two out in the second, and then after consecutive RBI-singles by Hagy, Ramirez and Klausing,
Alberto Morales hit a two-run double off the left field bullpen wall to make it 7-0.
Howe hit an RBI-double and Ramirez drove in a run with a groundout in the third to make it 9-0.
Ramirez lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth to complete the scoring.
The Broncs and Patriots play a doubleheader on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Gates open at 2 p.m.
