EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team was held to six hits in a 4-2 loss to the Jackson State University Tigers in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Two players had multi-hit games for the Broncs (8-12).
Jacob Hucakaby and
Will Klausing each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Huckabay's second hit capped a three-hit eighth, following a double by
Alberto Morales and a single by Klausing to complete the scoring.
The Broncs got their other run in the first. With two outs,
Derek Hagy and Morales walked to set-up an RBI-single by Klausing.
That was it against Tigers (15-13) starter
Vincent Anthonia (4-2), who scattered five hits and six walks over seven and a third innings while striking out four.
The Tigers broke through against
Dylan Badura (2-4) in the fourth. With one out,
Ethan Bright doubled,
Jose Cruz reached on an infield-single and
Fred Hampton hit an RBI-double to tie the game.
The Tigers took the lead in the fifth as
Aneko Knowles led off with a singles and later scored on an RBI-single by
Bryce Taylor.
The Tigers added their insurance in the eighth against
Guadalupe Barrera, on RBI-singles by Cruz and Knowles.
Bright moved from first base to the mound in the eighth and struck out three in an inning and two-thirds for his first save.
The Broncs and Tigers complete this three-game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Broncs will host an Easter Egg Hunt at Edinburg Baseball Stadium at 12:30 p.m. Admission for all patrons is free. Gates open at noon.
