EDINBURG – Freshman PSJA High School alum
Bryan Ramirez and junior
Alberto Morales each hit home runs to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the Jackson State University Tigers, 8-3, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Broncs (8-11) are now winners of four in a row.
The Tigers (14-13) led 2-0 after the top of the first, but Morales hit a two-run home run off of
Brandon Gregory (4-3) with two outs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
The Broncs sent 10 batters to the plate in the second while taking a 7-2 lead. The Broncs put two on with one out to set-up an RBI-single by
Shane Klemcke, an RBI-double by
Alex Howe and Ramirez's first-career home run, a shot into the leftfield bullpen.
Ramirez finished 3-for-4 and a triple shy of the cycle.
The Broncs added another run in the third when
Riley Goulding led off with a triple against reliever
Andre Rodriguez and scored on a sacrifice fly by Klemcke to make it 8-2.
That was more than enough for Broncs starter
Sam Street (5-1), who struck out a career-high 13 batters while allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk in his third complete game of the season.
The Broncs and Tigers play game two of this doubleheader in approximately 30 minutes.
