EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team completed the four-game sweep of the Chicago State University Cougars with a 7-0 victory on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Winners of five in a row, the Broncs (16-15, 7-1 Great West Conference) are now over .500 overall for the first time since the first game of the season. The Broncs are also guaranteed to remain at the top of the GWC standings.

After going 1-2-3 in the first, the Broncs got on the board against Cougars (4-23, 1-7 GWC) starter Eric Hall (1-6) in the second. Will Klausing led off with a single, and one out later, Chris Torres reached on an error. That set-up an RBI-double by Dillon Engelhart, a sacrifice fly by Shane Klemcke and an infield RBI-single by Riley Goulding to make it 3-0.

That was more than enough for Dusten Knight (2-2), who struck out nine while allowing four hits and three walks in a season-high eight innings of work.

The Broncs added a two-out run in the third as Klausing and Alberto Morales hit back-to-back doubles to make it 4-0.

The Broncs scored twice more with two outs in the fifth, as, with Alex Howe at third, Morales hit an RBI-single and Torres hit an RBI-double to make it 6-0.

The Broncs put up one more two-out run in the eighth, when Derek Hagy singled home Klemcke.

Morales finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Klausing went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Broncs are back in action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they visit the University of Texas in a game that will be televised live nationally on Longhorn Network. Fans will also be able to listen live at UTPABroncs.com/showcase.
