CORPUS CHRISTI – In their final Southland Conference matchup before joining the WAC, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team fell to the Southland Conference Champion and No. 58 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 0-7 on Saturday at Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
The Islanders (15-7, 5-0 Southland) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point 2-1. Peter Nagy and Gergo Weidinger started it off with an 8-2 win over Felix Hasselberg and Sebastien Job at No. 1, but Ricardo Hopker and Chetan Panditi came from behind for a 9-7 win over Matt Westmoreland and Ricardo Mayagoitia at No. 2. It all came down to No. 3, where Guillaume Rauseo and Andrew Maingot won two of the final three games to defeat Thomas-Orestis Panoulas and Victor Alves 8-6.
 
The Broncs (8-17, 1-4 Southland) picked up their lone set victory at No. 6 singles, where Joseph Bishop beat Pietro Jordao 6-4 in the first set before dropping the second set 0-6 and losing the super tie breaker 0-10.
 
The Broncs also had close matches at No. 3 and No. 4. At No. 3, Panditi played Westmoreland to 5-7 in the first set before dropping the second set 1-6. At No. 4, Job came back from dropping the first set 1-6 to Mayagoitia to force a tiebreaker in the second set, but Mayagoitia won it 7-5 to take the set 7-6 and win the match.
 
The Islanders took the other three matches in straight sets.
