EDINBURG –
Riley Goulding extended his hitting streak to 10 games, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners 2-1 on Tuesday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Goulding went 1-for-3 and is now 12-for-30 (.400) over the last 10 games, during which time the Broncs (19-18) are 7-3.
Goulding helped to set-up the Broncs' lone run in the first. After
Derek Hagy led off with a single, Goulding laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later,
Alex Howe hit an RBI-single to make it 1-0.
That was it against
Wesley Cox, who pitched the first three innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out two.
Michael Kraft (2-5) got the win in relief with two and two-thirds inning of two-hit baseball. He struck out three and walked three.
Matt Sims pitched two scoreless innings for his fourth save.
The Roadrunners (22-18) got their runs in the second against
Matt Daniels (0-4). With
Rodney Garza on and two outs,
Jesse Baker hit a towering home run over the left field bullpen and out of the stadium, his third of the season.
Daniels pitched four innings, striking out four while allowing five hits and two walks.
Kyle Tokunaga followed with three scoreless innings of relief, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out one.
Bryan Maxwell pitched a scoreless eighth and La Joya alum
Guadalupe Barrera pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Broncs open up a four-game Great West Conference series against the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders on Friday at 7 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m.
