EDINBURG –
Riley Goulding extended his hitting streak to 14 games, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 4-2 in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Goulding went 1-for-4 with an RBI-double in the third inning that scored
Shane Klemcke and gave the Broncs (22-19) a 1-0 lead.
Goulding is now 19-for-43 (.442) during the streak.
The Islanders (25-19) tied the game in the top of the fifth when
Stafford Brantley hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on an RBI-single by
Kyle Danford.
The Broncs jumped back ahead in the seventh.
Alberto Morales led off the inning with a single. Edinburg alum
Alberto Morales pinch-ran, moved to second on a single by
Chris Torres and to third on a sacrifice bunt by Klemcke.
Derek Hagy followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
Preston Budziszewski (1-2) came in for the Islanders and put two on with two out for
Jordan Lee, who lifted a 2-2 pitch down the right field line and off the foul pole for his first home run of the season to make it 4-2.
That made a winner of
Seth Horton (1-0), who pitched 1.2 innings of one-hit relief, striking out two.
Jacob Dorris pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10
th save.
Dusten Knight started for the Broncs and pitched two hitless innings.
Matt Daniels pitched the next two innings and retired six of the seven batters he faced.
The Broncs and Islanders play game two at approximately 6:05 p.m.
