EDINBURG –
Dusten Knight pitched a complete game two-hitter to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the Utah Valley University Wolverines 3-1 in seven innings of game one of a doubleheader on Friday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Broncs (26-27, 16-9 Great West Conference) have held the Wolverines (23-27, 14-8 GWC) to four hits over the first two games of this series.
If the Broncs win game two of the doubleheader, they will clinch a second place finish. First pitch is expected at approximately 5:30 p.m.
In his third complete game of the season, Knight (5-3) struck out eight and didn't allow a hit until two outs in the fourth. The run came with one out in the seventh on a pinch-hit home run by
Spencer Gothberg.
The Broncs got all of the offense they needed in the third when
Alberto Morales launched his GWC-leading eighth home run of the season, a three-run shot, to make it 3-0. It was his third home run in as many games.
That was it against
Adam Gunn (5-7), who struck out six while allowing five hits and three walks in six innings.
