Knight Strikes Out 14 in Game One Win

GRAND FORKS, North DakotaDusten Knight struck out a career-high 14 while twirling a four-hit shutout to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the University of North Dakota 9-0 in seven innings of game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Kraft Memorial Field.
 
It was Knight's (4-2) second complete game and first shutout of the season.
 
The Broncs (24-21, 14-4 Great West Conference) pounded out 13 hits to give Knight plenty of run support. Alberto Morales and Jacob Huckabay each had a career-high three hits. Morales hit his team-high fifth home run of the season while driving in three runs and scoring twice. He finished a triple short of the cycle. Huckabay drove in one run and scored one.
 
Riley Goulding went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 18 games and is now 23-for-58 (.397) during the streak.
 
The Broncs got on the board against UND (15-18-1, 6-9 GWC) starter Tyler Ruemmele (1-5) in the second. Alex Howe led off with a triple and Morales doubled him home. After a sacrifice bunt, Will Klausing hit an RBI-double and Huckabay hit an RBI-double to make it 3-0.
 
With two outs in the third, Howe worked a walk on a 3-2 pitch and Morales followed with a home run to make it 5-0.
 
In the fourth, Huckabay, PSJA alum Bryan Ramirez, Derek Hagy and Goulding hit consecutive singles to score two runs and knock out Ruemmele. Trent Egan came in and plunked Shane Ammon. Howe followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.
 
Shane Klemcke added an RBI-single in the sixth to cap the scoring
 
The Broncs and UND play game two of this doubleheader in approximately 30 minutes.
