Women's Basketball Falls to Idaho

MOSCOW, Ida. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the defending Western Athletic Conference Tournament Champion University of Idaho Vandals 76-65 on Thursday at the Cowan Spectrum.
 
The Broncs (7-8, 1-1 WAC) had two players finish in double-figures scoring as freshman Shawnte' Goff scored 12 points and junior Cherrell Price finished with 11 points. Junior Brittany Bush added nine points with seven rebounds while junior Tonisha Walker chipped in eight points and two steals.
 
The Vandals (10-7, 3-0 WAC) were led by Stacey Barr, who recorded a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Christina Salvatore and Alyssa Charlston added 12 points each while Ali Forde scored 10 points.
 
Idaho jumped out to an early 16-10 lead after Barr knocked down a three-pointer with 14:54 left in the first half but the Broncs answered with a 13-0 run that was capped by a LaQuita Garner three-pointer giving them the 23-16 lead.
 
Later in the first half, junior T'Ondria Nolen knocked down a three-pointer with 5:12 left in the half to make it 31-25 Broncs, but the Vandals closed out the half with a 12-3 run to take the 37-34 lead at the half.
 
In the second half, Idaho pushed their lead to 43-36 after a Forde layup but UTPA made four baskets in a row to go on a 9-0 run taking the 45-43 lead with 14:43 left in the game. The Vandals took the lead once again after a three-point play by Barr but a Walker three-pointer tied the game at 50-50 with 12:53 to play but Idaho responded with a 15-5 run to put the game out of reach.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 6 p.m. when they visit Seattle U.
