SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team opened its four-match road trip with a 3-0 (19-25, 15-25, 22-25) to the Seattle University Redhawks on Thursday at Connolly Center.
Sophomore
Alisha Watson led the Broncs (3-13, 1-2 WAC) with 10 kills on a .471 hitting percentage while also adding four digs and three aces. Senior
Krysta Freitas led the way with nine digs and added two aces while freshman
Mary Kate Clark paced the offense with 28 assists.
Iris Ivanis led the Redhawks (5-10, 1-1 WAC) with 15 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Shelby Babcock recorded a match-high 10 digs and Kerry Lane led the way with a match-high 36 assists.
The Broncs fell behind early in the first set but a kill by Watson tied it up at four. Later in the set, the Redhawks took a 16-9 lead after a kill by Jelena Vujcin. The Broncs then got within two at 17-19 after a kill junior
Haley Durham but dropped the first set 19-25.
The Broncs and the Redhawks went back and forth in the early parts of the second set as a kill by
Diara Reynolds tied the set at five. Seattle U then went on a 6-3 run that was capped by a kill by Stephanie Stoll, which pushed their lead to 11-8. The Broncs took the lead at 20-10 after a pair of Redhawks' errors but dropped the second set 25-27.
In the third set, the Redhawks jumped out to an 8-3 lead after a kill by Lane. Another kill by Stoll added to Seattle U's lead making it 15-6 but the Broncs went on a 12-4 run that was capped by a kill by Clark cutting the lead down to one at 19-18. The Redhawks closed out the set scoring six of the last 10 points to take the set 25-22 and the match.
The Broncs continue their road trip as they face the Utah Valley Wolverines on Saturday at 2 p.m.
