CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the host and No. 18 DePaul Blue Demons 93-70 on the second day of the Maggie Dixon Classic Saturday at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
 
Sophomore Shawnte' Goff led the Broncs (1-1) with 18 points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals. Senior T'Ondria Nolen dished out a game-high tying six assists to go with four points, four rebounds and one steal.
 
Five Blue Demons (1-1) reached double-figures in scoring, led by Megan Podkowa, who had 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting, plus 8-for-9 from the line, to go with seven rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals. Brooke Schulte scored 14 points with six rebounds. Jessica January scored 11 points with five rebounds. Megan Rogowski and Mart'e Grays finished with 10 points each.
 
Junior KaeLynn Boyd nailed a three and Goff knocked down a layup as the Broncs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening minute. After a layup by Podkowa and a three by Rogowski tied the game, senior Brittany Bush sunk a layup to put the Broncs back on top at 7-5. The Blue Demons scored the next six points to cap what was an 11-2 run and go up four, but a pair of free throws by junior Rickell Preston brought the Broncs within 11-9 at the 15:51 mark.
 
The Blue Demons pushed their lead out to 18-11, a little over a minute later, but senior Tonisha Walker scored five points to power a 9-0 run as the Broncs went up 20-18 with 12:18 remaining in the first half. At that point, the Broncs were 8-for-11 from the field.
 
January responded with a layup to spark an 11-3 run to put the Blue Demons back on top 29-23 over the next four minutes.
 
The Broncs were still as close as four at 34-30 on a Preston layup with 5:55 to go, but a Schulte three sparked a 14-4 run as the Blue Demons pushed their lead into double-figures for the rest of the game.
 
The Broncs close out the tournament against No. 5 Texas A&M (2-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
