Box ScorePhoto GalleryEDINBURG – One night after beating Texas A&M-Kingsville by 50 points, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team beat the Concordia University Tornados by 41 points, 72-31, on Thursday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Sophomore
Shawnte' Goff led the Broncs (3-2) with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Junior
Rickell Preston notched her first-career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Isis Johnson and
Emily Cullers led the Tornados with six points each.
The Broncs and Tornados traded baskets in the opening minute, but then a Goff gave the Broncs the lead and a three by junior
KaeLynn Boyd put the Broncs up 10-2. After a
Nadine Fadelle layup, the Broncs scored 12-straight points to cap the 20-2 run on a layup by freshman Weslaco alum
Laura Van Tilburg with 4:41 remaining in the first half that made it 22-4.
Van Tilburg finished with a career-high five points on 2-of-4 shooting with a career-high eight rebounds (two offensive) and one block.
The Broncs went up by 20 for the first time on a three-pointer by senior
Cha'zaye Wright that made it 25-5 with 3:12 left in the first half.
The Broncs extended their lead to 30 for the first time on a jumper and a layup by
Tonisha Walker that made it 48-18 with 11:36 remaining.
A few minutes later, with the lead 43-25, freshman
Stephanie Onyeje and senior
Cherrell Price scored six points each to power a 17-2 run, giving the Broncs their largest lead at 70-26 with 2:35 to go.
The Broncs conclude this three-game on home stand on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Eastern Michigan at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 12.
