RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team closed out 2014 with a 64-43 loss to the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams on Sunday at Kaplan Arena.
 
Senior Cha'zaye Wright led the Broncs (7-7) with a career-high 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting, plus 6-of-7 from the line. Sophomore Shawnte' Goff added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.
 
Isis Thorpe led four Rams (7-4) in double-figures scoring with 14 points and eight rebounds. Adaeze Alaeze scored 12 points with seven rebounds. Chadarryl Clay and Keira Robinson finished with 10 points each.
 
The Rams jumped out to an 11-5 lead over the first nine and a half minutes of the game, but the Broncs hit five of their next seven shots, including their last three in a row, while pulling within 16-15 on a free throw by senior T'Ondria Nolen with 5:49 remaining in the first half.
 
The Broncs took the lead for the first time since it was it was 3-2 when Wright converted her second three-point play of the game to make it 19-18 at the 4:11 mark, but Alaeze responded with a layup to spark an 11-3 run as Rams went up 29-21.
 
The Broncs pulled within 31-28 in the opening minute of the second half on a layup by senior Brittany Bush, but the Rams responded with a 15-0 run to push the game out of reach.
 
The Broncs take some time off for winter break before returning to the court on Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
