EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley for a program called Strike Out Hunger during the 2014 Broncs baseball season.
Fans who bring four non-perishable food items to any of the Broncs' seven Sunday home games at Edinburg Baseball Stadium during the 2014 season will receive a free ticket to that game. There is no limit to how many tickets one fan can receive per game.
Sunday will be the first opportunity for fans to Strike Out Hunger as the Broncs host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 12 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
It is estimated that one in four people in the Rio Grande Valley are food insecure, which means they either skip meals and/or buy less expensive, less nutritional foods due to financial struggles. It is also estimated that one in two children in the Rio Grande Valley go to bed hungry.
